About the Artist

Archival Legacy & Industry Access

Cary Hammond—professionally coined as the “Music Man” by the British Journal of Photography in their 2004 cover profile feature—is a London-based music photographer with over two decades of experience documenting UK and international artists across hip-hop, soul, R&B, pop, electronic dance, and club culture.

With trusted access to high-profile sessions, his archive brings together a diverse portfolio of studio portraits, live concert performances, and behind-the-scenes footage, capturing key moments for names including Rihanna, Cheryl Cole, Enrique Iglesias, Stevie Wonder, Method Man, LL Cool J, Busta Rhymes, Kelly Rowland, Lionel Richie, Erykah Badu, and Girls Aloud. Over his career, Cary has shot official single artwork and been commissioned directly by major record labels—including Universal Records, Def Jam, and Blue Note. He also worked as a photographer for Mixmag, traveling across the UK and Europe to document club nights, prominent DJs, and electronic artists like the Chemical Brothers and house music icon Barbara Tucker.

His work has appeared across a wide array of premier music publications and national titles, including The Independent, The Metro, The Sun, and The Mirror, with his imagery syndicated widely via Getty Images.

The Cinematic Eye & Photographic Style

Hammond’s style is distinguished by its cinematic intimacy and raw energy. He combines editorial technique with documentary authenticity — using dramatic lighting, rich textures, selective colour, strong close-ups, and dynamic stage compositions to reveal true personality, charisma, and live presence.

Whether capturing an intimate hotel suite portrait on location, producing studio setups, or freezing a concert moment, his approach focuses on how he captured the unscripted reality of the scene—thinking on his feet to deliver timeless, emotionally resonant frames.

Archival Print Curation

Today, the Music Man Studio archive brings together his historic master files for collectors and fans. Limited-edition gallery prints and high-resolution digital downloads are available directly from the studio, preserving a rich visual history of modern music’s golden era.
